ACU Employee Spotlight: Getting to know the Business Financial Centre team

Behind every great business is a rock-solid strategy, including a detailed account of financial numbers and plans to drive its ongoing success — and that takes a lot of work to prepare! Business owners, CFOs and decision-makers can be immersed in number crunching and financial planning, so when it comes time to get financing to execute on that strategy, they need a trusted partner who truly understands their needs.

For local small to medium-sized businesses, as well as public institutions such as schools and municipalities, ACU has a team ready to help. The Business Financial Centre (BFC) includes a team of professionals who know what our local businesses need to succeed. And the BFC team is dedicated to helping grow and strengthen those organizations through access to flexible financing options.

As champions of local business, we chat with three team members from the BFC to learn how they help members, the experience they bring to the table, and ways that their role inspires and motivates them. We also learn a little bit about how they each enjoy the Manitoba outdoors and life outside of the office.

Getting to know Cynthia Wepruk:

Cynthia Wepruk, ACU Business Financial Centre team member

Question (Q): What is your role with the Business Financial Centre? 

As Director of the BFC, I provide leadership and direction to a team of Business Account Managers and Cash Management Specialists. We specialize in construction financing and land development based on our local knowledge of the market.

Q. How long have you been in the role?

I’ve been with ACU since 2015, but I’ve worked in the financial services industry for over 20 years.

Q. What has been a highlight in your ACU career so far?

ACU is a huge community supporter, which is very important to me. I love assisting members with their companies and providing financial advice to help them achieve their dreams. Having a member thank you for believing in them and their dream makes it all worthwhile.

Q. What activities do you do outside of the office?

When I’m not working, my nine-year-old son keeps us busy with hockey and extracurricular activities. We enjoy fishing and boating as a family, and spending time at the lake in the summer months.

Getting to know Jay Sodhi:

Jay Sodhi, ACU Business Financial Centre team member

Q. How would you describe your role with the BFC?

As a Senior Business Account Manager, I help our members fill their credit gaps by providing unique business lending opportunities through the diverse programs available at ACU.

Q. Since ACU has business members in so many different industries, how do you go about meeting their expectations?

I discover their goals and aspirations, then I work diligently with them to help achieve those goals by providing the best possible financial advice. By understanding our members, I’m able to help them by developing custom solutions providing exactly what they need.

Q. What kind of work experience has helped you in your role?

I have nine years of experience in the banking industry, providing day-to-day personal and business banking, credit services, and investment opportunities. Prior to ACU, I also have had experience in personal and business banking with two major Canadian banks as well as a local credit union.

Q. How has working in the BFC been rewarding to you?

The values of ACU, the organization’s goals, and our variety of programs allow me to help our members grow and take their business to the next level. Mentoring and coaching others also drives me, and learning from experienced peers always inspires me to do better.

Q. What activities do you do outside of the office?

Outside of work, I enjoy hiking and exploring the trails of Manitoba on my bike, working out and spending time with my family and friends.

Getting to know Jean Grenier:

Jean Grenier, ACU Business Financial Centre team member

Q. How would you describe your role?

As a Business Development Manager, I assist and advise businesses about their financial needs. For me, it’s all about building and nurturing relationships in order to grow the businesses that use ACU.

Q. What experience has helped you in this position?

I’ve worked in the credit union system for over 10 years. I really enjoy analytics — especially in the areas of business plans, balance sheets, and cash flow. This love of detail allows me to get to know members on a deeper level, and provide better business solutions.

Q. How do the ACU values factor into your day-to-day role?

What I like about ACU is how it engages and supports the community. There’s also a great team atmosphere that is present throughout the entire company. My own personal values of community involvement, taking a collaborative approach and being a team-oriented player shine through in all I do at ACU.

Q. What activities do you do outside of the office?

Outside of work, I support my community by volunteering. I enjoy outdoor activities and spending time with my young family. We enjoy quading and living the country life.
